We are looking for music loving people to guest write for us
It took me fifteen years to discover I had no talent for writing, but I couldn’t give it up because by that time I was too famous.
– columnist and humorist Robert Benchley
At Listening Through The Lens, we are looking for you, your mind and your pen (or maybe computer!).
We are looking for anyone who loves roots music to write an article about their experiences for publication on this site. Your views and opinions are sought and could cover a range of topics (past, present and future):
- an album
- a live show
- a festival
- a book
- photographs
- anything else that fits broadly in the roots music category (and that is a field wide and open!)
Yes, we have dabbled with guest writers in the past, to very good effect. Here are three examples:
- Philip Osborn gave us one of our most successfully-viewed and thoughtful articles on his best Bob Dylan covers
- Laura Coates and Andy Wrigglesworth (aka folk/Americana duo The Weeping Willows) incisively reviewed the new John Prine album The Tree of Forgiveness
- John Williams took us through the then-new AmericanaFest app with detail and precision
Here’s how it would work.
You submit your article in text whenever you can (no time pressure from us), we will come up with the layout and embellish with images (you could have say in the latter in you wished). We publish with your name up front. We could even provide you with a list digital albums from which you could choose (please note: this music would be for your use only – please do not share).
Why do this? Well, your views are important and will provide a healthy, fresh perspective from ours. Whatever you write will help promote the artist in question, spread the word widely (every article hits roughly 18,000 news feeds and inboxes via a variety of channels – as well as being a resident article on LTTL, notice of it will go via direct email, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, even…Linked In!) Impress your friends and start a conversation about your preferred topic.
You might not get as famous as Robert Benchley but you probably know more about your topic than he would have.
Contact us at team@listeningthroughthelens.com and we will respond quickly to you
Cheers from Rob and Jim
