J Wagner house concert and my final day in Arkansas
29 August 2016 Fayetteville Arkansas
The day after a four-day music festival has a lot going for it. It’s like peacefully bathing in a ray of sunshine.
Today was Monday and it was not going to be rushed or raucous.
Dawn and I went out for brunch (Arsaga’s Church and Centre – recommended!) and I spent quite some time at the Public Library, writing and travel organising. That was followed by a short trip to Mount Sequoyah and admiring the view of this delightful town.
Dawn showed me her workplace on the way to our music treat for the day – an evening house concert with J Wagner.
J Wagner is based in Austin Texas. He is a prolific songwriter – he has had material covered by, or he has collaborated with, Bart Crow, Gregory Alan Isakov and Calexico. His songs have featured on TV shows The Blacklist and Californication.
He is a brilliant story-teller with a warm vocal style and is a truly natural performer. Memorable tunes tonight in front of a small number of observers included ‘Houston’, ‘Suitcase Full of Sparks’, ‘Crimson Running Through Her Veins’, ‘Falling Forward’ and ‘Vortex of Doom’. His performance in such an intimate setting was a real treat. You can purchase his CDs here. More info here.
Thanks to Dawn for arranging and Lori for being a gracious host.
Tomorrow, it’s Tulsa Oklahoma
