Without Getting Killed or Caught: The Life and Music of Guy Clark:
Documentary feature film to detail the life of legendary songwriter

Long time music industry veteran, Tamara Saviano, is producing, writing, and directing a full-length feature documentary on legendary songwriter Guy Clark.  The film is a treatment of a gifted songwriter, spellbinding character and old school man of the world.  Now 73 years old, Guy and his wife Susanna shaped the outlaw songwriter culture in Nashville, Tennessee.

Without Getting Killed or Caught: The Life and Music of Guy Clark will include exclusive interview footage with Clark and his friends, family and colleagues.  It will also include extensive and exclusive audio and video footage from past interviews, unique never-before-seen photos and images from Clark’s private and family collection and historical footage.  Because of the artistic approach and script, the documentary will be designed to have the feel of a feature film.

Saviano has spent countless hours over the past five years collaborating with Clark on his definitive biography and began working on Without Getting Killed or Caught in the summer of 2014.  Her unique perspective and keen ability to find the heart of the story have garnered awards and national recognition for several projects, including the Grammy-winning Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster and the 2012 Americana Album of the Year, This One’s For Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark, also nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album.

Without Getting Killed or Caught boasts an impressive management team including co-producer and Director of Photography Paul Whitfield, Associate Producers Connie Nelson and Stacy Dean Campbell, Art Director Wendy Thessen, Finance Manager Kurt Vitolo and Legal Counsel John Beiter.

The film will open as Guy and his soon-to-be wife, Susanna Talley, pull into Nashville on a rainy November night in 1971.  The white Volkswagen bus is loaded with everything they own, including a scrap from a burger sack with a partial lyric that reads: “If I could just get off of this L.A. Freeway without getting killed or caught.”

Without Getting Killed or Caught will close with a scene from Guy’s 73rd birthday, an intimate in-the-round of stories and songs featuring Guy and his Texas compadres Terry Allen, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen and Jerry Jeff Walker.

The remaining parts of the film will be shot next year around Texas in the Hill Country, Austin, Rockport, Monahans and Houston.  Saviano plans to debut the film in 2016 as a companion to her biography and in time for Clark’s 75th birthday.

It sounds magnificent!
