Just Another Austin Wednesday

Ok.  So you probably know how the day started – coffee at Dominican Joe’s off South Congress.  Today we followed this with a walk up the hill to a weaving shop where I almost learned something about knitting and crocheting.

Then we thought it was time to catch a bus back down Congress with the intention of heading to the Austin State Capitol Building.  On the way we alighted from the bus for some shopping and lunch at the Royal Blue Grocery – the best beef fajita I have ever had?

Then a long walk down Sixth Street to REI – a recreation equipment store – a classy joint with reasonable prices.  Then a walk back to Congress via 9th Street and its squirrels, grand houses and graceful trees.

Before you knew it, we were at The Intercontinental Stephen F Austin Hotel enjoying the view of Congress and the Capital Building for a quiet G n T.  Following that we stopped by the beautiful Driskill Hotel where it just happened to be Wine Wednesday.  A beautiful and evocative place.

Bus home then off to the Continental Club for the Jitterbug Vipers.  An eclectic-looking group on stage, the band has a strong western swing vibe, with a little bit of weird thrown in.  Slim Ritchie on guitar is a force to be reckoned with.

Time for our last dinner in Austin – Guerro’s seemed to be the logical choice and it did not disappoint.

Time to retire – a 6am start tomorrow.
