Welcome to our recap of the Listening Through The Lens Radio Program, broadcast on City Park Radio, on the last Sunday of every month.

The program was aired on 27 April 2025.

Here is what we played.

1. Former Goanna frontman Shane Howard has released a striking single about white Australian settlement from the perspective of the indigenous people already here.  Here is the chilling “Mannalargenna”.

Thanks for joining us. I’m Jim Jacob and today we will be playing tracks from our favourite Albums of the Month, plus there will be some new releases that I really liked.  I hope you can stick around for the next hour.

2. Now to our Albums Of The Month.  We played a song from highly regarded Jason Isbell’s solo album Foxes In The Snow a while ago.  Here’s another – “Ride To Robert’s”

3. If you like Sandy Denny and other English classic folk singers, you might like Kassi Valazza.  Even though she is American and based in New Orleans, I love her classic sound.  This one’s called “Shadow Of Lately” from the album From Newman Street.

4. Rose Cousins has won many Canadian JUNO awards.  Her latest album is called Conditions Of Love – Vol 1 and features mainly her and the piano.  This song is entitled “I Believe In Love (and it’s very hard)”.

5 Another Canadian artist is Shane Pendergast – a nice folk album from him is Winter Grace and this track is “Playing Crib By The Stove On Gibbs Crick Road”.

6 I have seen Sunny War perform in the USA.  Her latest album Armageddon In A Summer Dress is a refreshing mix of folk, punk and rap.  This song is “No One Calls Me Baby”.

7. Now to some new releases.  Nashville-based outfit The Steeldrivers are going to release a new album called Outrun in May this year on the Memphis classic label Sun Records.  Here’s the title track.

8. Guy Clark was one of a famous conclave of artists in Nashville alongside Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell and Emmylou Harris.  Clark released a number of great albums including Dublin Blues which has, on its 30^th anniversary, been remastered and reissued.  Here’s one of the remastered tracks – “The Randall Knife”.

9. From South Alabama, Muscadine Bloodline are duo Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton.  They have a great sound I think.  The album …And What Was Left Behind has just been released.  The track I’m playing today is “Chickasaw Church Of Christ”.

10. I saw the trio I’m With Her in Arkansas about ten years ago.  The outfit had just come together to record their first music together.  Since then they have gone back to their own careers, until this year, with a new collection entitled Wild and Clear and Blue.  This classy song is entitled “Ancient Light”.

11. “Headlights” is the second single from a new album Best Left For The Willing coming soon – her first in ten years.  She has a powerful voice. Here is Genevieve Chadwick.

12. Australian alt. country singer/songwriter Lachlan Bryan is one of my favourites. After teaming up with Catherine Britt, he has released a single with Dutch-born and Melbourne-based singer Joyce Prescher.  Their new single is “My Heroics”.

13. To take us out is Tennessee’s Valerie June’s new song “Joy, Joy!” from the album Owls, Omens, and Oracles.
