Welcome to our recap of the Listening Through The Lens Radio Program, broadcast on City Park Radio, on the last Sunday of every month.

The latest program was aired on 23 February 2025.

Here is what we played.

1. That was Jason Isbell from Alabama in the USA with “Foxes In The Snow” from his upcoming acoustic album of the same name which will be out March 7.

2. Today we will be playing a track from the rest of our best albums of 2024, plus there will be some of our favourite new releases. Another song from Alabama. The Red Clay Strays are an impressive country rock and soul outfit that have a reputation for being an outstanding live act. Here is “Wanna Be Loved” from their Dave Cobb-produced release Made By These Moments.

3. Nashville-based artist Sadie Campbell gave us a great debut last year with an album called Metamorphosis with eleven tracks covering some raw emotions. This song is “Leave It All Behind”.

4. Texas native Sarah Jarosz had won three Grammys by the age of 28. She released another classy album last year called Polaroid Lovers. This track is entitled “Columbus & 89^th“

5. Another outfit from Texas is Shane Smith & The Saints with Smith’s gruff voice and the band giving off plenty of power. Here’s “Fire In The Sky” from the album Norther.

6, Shemekia Copeland has an arresting voice ideal for blues and r’n’b. “Tough Mother” is the next track I’m going to play, from her full-length release Blame It On Eve.

7. Speaking of Grammys, Sierra Ferrell won three this year for her career-defining album Trail Of Flowers. This is “Fox Hunt”.

8. Katie Crutchfield is the musical heart of the Waxahatchee project and the album Tiger’s Blood was very well received. This song is called “Right Back To It” with vocal support from MJ Lenderman

9. I’ve already played a couple of songs from Wood Box Heroes on the show. They are a sort of supergroup blending string music, bluegrass and electric folk. Their album is entitled 444 and here’s “Cross The Line”.

10. Now onto some new releases that we really like. I saw powerhouse guitarist and songwriter Samantha Fish in Missouri a couple of years ago. She was very impressive live. Just announced this week is another album coming out in April 2025 called Paper Doll. “Sweet Southern Sounds” is the first single.

11. Canadian singer-songwriter Ian North released a reflective new folk single last December “The Beautiful City”.

12. Uganda-born Texas-based singer songwriter Jon Muq embarks on his first Australian tour next month and I’m very much looking forward to catching him at Port Fairy Folk Festival in a couple of weeks. This song I really like – it’s called “Runaway”.

13. Highly regarded Alison Krauss & Union Station are releasing their first album in 14 years. It is called Arcadia, out in March. The first single is “Looks Like The End Of The Road”.
