Welcome to our recap of the Listening Through The Lens Radio Program, broadcast on City Park Radio, on the last Sunday of every month.

The program was aired on 29 December.

Here is what we played.

1. That was impressive local artist Pete Cornelius with “Sick Of This Town”, the third single from his upcoming album Southern, which will be independently released next February. The new project was made in Tasmania – using local artists and mates to help capture the essence of island life. I was lucky enough to see him perform many of the new songs at Verandah Music Festival in Evandale last month.

2. Nefesh Mountain are husband-and-wife Eric Lindberg and Doni Zasloff, who have a double album called Beacons out January 31 next year. Self-produced and mainly recorded at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, this track is called “What Kind Of World” (no clip available).

3. Australian brothers Rob and Mark Snarski have collaborated under the moniker Snarksi vs Snarksi. Here Mark sings Rob and Rob sings Mark’s songs. The album is called Waiting For The Bell – it was produced by Shane O’Mara at Yikesville studio in Melbourne and is available now. The song I’ve chosen is “Black Crow In A Loquat Tree” (no suitable clip available).

4. Grammy winner Mike Farris will be releasing The Sound of Muscle Shoals in March 2025. The album was recorded at the renowned Fame studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where I was lucky enough to visit in 2015. This track is “I’ll Come Runnin’ (no clip available).

5. Iain Matthews has been in English rock folk outfit Fairport Convention and a solo artist for quite a few years. At the age of 78, he has come out with an excellent album How Much Is Enough and this song is the wistful “New Dark Ages”.

6 Lucero is an excellent country rock band based in Memphis, Tennessee. Two of its members – singer Ben Nicols and keyboardist Rick Steff have recorded acoustic versions of 20 of their songs. “Hate & Jealousy” features a haunting riff. Here it is (no suitable clip available).

7. Flatland Cavalry is a six-piece country and Americana band from Lubbock in Texas. The album Flatland Forever is a monster collection of 25 tracks, containing many gems. Here’s one of them – “Mountain Song”.

8. Another person in their 70’s is folk singer John McCutcheon who has just released his 45^th album. Folk legend Tom Paxton recorded an album with McCutcheon and deemed it the best record he ever made. The new McCutcheon album is called Field of Stars and it will be out next month. Here’s a song called “Hell And High Water” (no clip available).

9. Coming up next is a song from famed Texas Country and Western Swing band Asleep At The Wheel. – it’s called “Molly Rose” and tells the story of a young man who leaves an Irish girl to move to Australia (no clip available).

10. From Toronto, Ryan Wayne issued a new album this year. This track is from that release and is called “Love’s Lost Languages”.

11. Australian duo We Mavericks released their second album Heart of Silver a while back. This is the title track.

12. He’s played guitar with Paul Kelly, The Church and been on the Rockwiz band. Melbourne’s Ash Naylor is releasing a new album next year called El Reno Music. Here’s a sneak preview, a song with the name “Donovan Dreams”.

13. I saw Kentucky singer songwriter Early James at Port Fairy Folk Festival this year. Very intense and different I thought. This is a new song called “Rag Doll” which will feature on his album Medium Raw which is out next month.
