New Album ‘Every New Beginning’ Coming

Single “Joy Rider” Out Now

Kim Richey’s upcoming LP is called Every New Beginning and will be out May 24, 2024 on Yep Roc Records.

The latest single from that collection is “Joy Rider” which was co-written with Aaron Lee Tasjan. Of the inspiration for the single, Richey says:

“There’s this kid in my East Nashville neighbourhood that blasts around on a mini-bike. Nothing stops him [not even the pandemic]. He should deliver mail, that kid. He definitely brought the joy when I most needed it.”

He’s got a midnight wheelie

It’s the talk of the neighborhood

He’s screaming up and down the side streets

‘Cause it makes him feel so good”

Every New Beginning features ten tracks, written or co-written by Richey with a coterie of characters, over several years, and produced by critically lauded multi-instrumentalist and producer Doug Lancio (Patty Griffin, John Hiatt). It was recorded at Skinny Elephant studio in Nashville with engineer Dylan Alldredge in August 2023 with musical assistance from longtime collaborators like Dan Mitchell and Neilson Hubbard (the latter produced Richey’s 2013 album Thorn in My Heart) and newer friends like Tasjan. The album promises to add to and enhance Richey’s nearly 30-year excellent career as a cherished songwriter and singer.

From Richey’s critically acclaimed self-titled debut in 1995 to 2020’s Long Way Back… The Songs of Glimmer, she has consistently been feted and recognised, penning no.1 hits for Radney Foster (“Nobody Wins”) and Trisha Yearwood (“Believe Me Baby (I Lied)”) (the latter earning her a Grammy nomination) as well as songs for Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Loveless and Brooks and Dunn, among others. Her voice has graced scores of recordings, providing peerless harmonies, including Jason Isbell’s watershed Southeastern, Yearwood’s Everybody KnowsHeartbreaker by Ryan Adams, Reba McEntire’s Starting Over, and Has Been by William Shatner. Most recently Richey co-headlined a night of Brandi Carlile’s Girls Just Wanna Weekend Festival in Mexico, sharing the stage with a wide range of artists including Carlile, Brandy Clark, Carpenter, Annie Lennox, Allison Russell and Sarah McLachlan. She was also a special guest at Isbell’s annual Ryman Auditorium residency, sitting in to reprise her role for the anniversary performance of Southeastern

Richey is touring extensively, dates can be found on the link below.
