New Song Released – ‘A Moment Too Soon’

Singer-songwriter Nigel Wearne has released a quirky new single “A Moment Too Soon” to complement his impressive new tour schedule including MerleFest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina this coming weekend.

The Song

The new song has been described in the media release as “an Americana-noir rumba that swaggers and sways to a retro vibe that smacks it straight back to the 60’s”. Lyrically, it deals with regret, that sinking feeling when ill-chosen words pass from you to another human that you yearn to take back – “And what once is said, can’t be unheard. What once is bled, may forever be spurned”. The song is another bold move by Wearne away from his folkie past to a more sophisticated, jazz vibe.

Produced by Wearne, “A Moment Too Soon” features Wearne on electric guitar, Casio keyboard, saw and vocals and musicians Danny McKenna (drums), Isaac Gunnoo (double bass) and one of Montreal’s hottest jazz cats, Aurélien Tomasi (bass sax).

The new song follows on from Wearne’s previous single, the slinky and soulful “To The Edge” (featuring Lauren Housley).

The Tour

Fresh from Official Showcases at UK Americana Music Week and Folk Alliance International, Nigel Wearne is in the midst of his debut US tour this April and May. He’s just performed at the Old Settler’s Music Festival in Texas, will be at MerleFest in North Carolina and has a string of dates in the south-east.

Hailing from Gunditjmara country in south-west Victoria, Wearne is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist with diverse influences such as Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Gillian Welch. He’s toured Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canada and performed at a long list of music events, including the Port Fairy Folk Festival and Adelaide Guitar Festival. His sophomore album Black Crow garnered wide critical acclaim, a nomination for Best Country Album at the Music Victoria Awards and debuted at #1 on Australia’s AMRAP Charts.
