‘Results Not Typical’
The New Album From Ian Jones
Out 7 April 2023
By Rob Dickens

Experienced singer-songwriter Ian Jones has issued his debut full-length release Results Not Typical and it’s a defining statement of the finest songcraft and musical artistry.
Released on April 7, 2023 (via Thin Silver Records) the album’s eleven tracks throw up eloquent narratives and luminous not-unlike-Don-McLean vocals across an opulent diversity of roots genres.
“I grew up in the shadow of Mount Rainier [Washington State]. My dad left when I was five, leaving a single mom with three kids, bread-and-cheese-line poor. My babysitter was a record player.”

Raised on a steady vinyl diet of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and David Allan Coe, by the time he was in junior high Jones was writing his own songs on a beat-up classical guitar. After years in promising bands in Seattle, Santa Barbara, and L.A., he released his well-received debut solo EP Evergreens in 2021.
“I didn’t want to be laying on my deathbed saying, ‘what if I’d made a record with a great producer and the best musicians in the world’. Now I can check that off my list.”

With producer Jesse Siebenberg, Seattle-based Jones assembled an A-list array of first-call players for two days of live tracking at Siebenberg’s Brotheryn Studios in Ojai, California. These included drummer Joey Waronker, bassists Jonathan Flaugher and Gabe Noel, guitarist Jason Soda, violinist Paul Cartwright and pianists Dave Palmer and Aaron Embry.
Comprising songs carefully chosen from Jones’ vast unrecorded catalogue, Results Not Typical reflects his own surroundings – lakes, mountains, woods, rain and long cold nights indoors.
Jones will accompany the release of Results Not Typical with extensive touring, both solo and with his rotating Living Room All-Stars Band. Each single will be followed by a live solo acoustic rendering of the same song, plus videos.
If the stars aligned and I get to see Jones at AmericanaFest this September, that would be a real treat for me.
