No Time For Love Songs

Out Now

Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore are long-time members of Steve Earle‘s band The Dukes. They’re also Americana duo The Mastersons and their new release is No Time For Love Songs (issued March 6 via Red House Records).

It’s been a tough year for the pair. The loss of two friends was followed by the passing of a third – long-time Dukes’ bass player Kelly Looney. Throw in the death of Masterson’s father not long after the couple’s last release, 2014’s Good Luck Charm and the grief is self-evident.

One of the new songs on No Time For Love Songs is “King Of The Castle” which was inspired by the loss of Chris’s father and a remark made by their friend, fellow artist Rosie Flores, that when you lose a father it’s like “the king of the castle” is gone.

Here’s a clip for the powerful song. The video was filmed at Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles during the sessions for the album.

The Mastersons, who now call Los Angeles home after stints in Texas, recorded the new collection in L.A. with Shooter Jennings The album was engineered and mixed by five-time Grammy Award-winning engineer, Ryan Freeland.

Collaborators include Eleanor’s sister and vocalist Bonnie Whitmore, a notable songwriter and recording artist in her own right, bassist/keyboardist Tyler Chester and drummer Mark Stepro. Longtime friend Aaron Lee Tasjan added background vocals on two songs.

Another video has been made available – “So Impossible”:
