North Mississippi Allstars
‘Up and Rolling’
Out October 4
North Mississippi Allstars are set to return with Up and Rolling on October 4 via New West Records.
The twelve-song set was produced by Luther and Cody Dickinson and recorded at The Zebra Ranch, their family studio established by their father, the legendary Jim Dickinson in Independence, MS. The album also features guest appearances from Mavis Staples, Jason Isbell, Cedric Burnside, Duane Betts and Sharde Thomas.
“What You Gonna Do?” featuring Staples is the first glimpse of what to expect from the new collection. The song originally appeared on The Staples Singers’ classic 1965 album Freedom Highway which was recorded live in a Chicago church and which made an enormous impression on Luther Dickinson.
Along with originals, the Allstars covere some of their favorite songs by their local Mississippi Hill Country heroes, with help from Burnside and Thomas. Jason Isbell appears on a tune that has been in the Dickinson family for years – “Mean Old World”.
