Australians Pick Up Accolades at International Songwriting Competition

Australian artists internationally recognised for songwriting prowess

The International Songwriting Competition (ISC), a prestigious and respected US-based songwriting competition, has announced its 2018 winners. The ISC received almost 19,000 entries from 140 countries and prizes include more than $175,000 in cash and merchandise.

Winners hail from all over the world (50% of this year’s winners come from outside the USA) and range from talented amateurs to seasoned songwriting veterans. The twenty-three categories include all genres of contemporary music, from Rock to Pop to Country to R&B/Hip-Hop.

Aussie songwriters did extremely well this year, with two First Place Wins, two Second Place wins, two Third Place wins, and twenty Honorable Mentions.

The list of 2018 Australian winners is as follows:

“Australian songwriters always excel in ISC, so we have come to expect an unusually high level of songwriting skill from them” said Candace Avery, ISC Founder and Director. “This year was no exception, and we are proud to honor the many ISC-winning artists who are writing and performing some of the best music to come out of Australia.”

Throughout the years, many Australian artists have been honored in ISC: Kate Miller-Heidke, Kasey Chambers, Vance Joy, Amy Shark, Augie March, Big Scary, Birds of Tokyo, Dean Lewis, Eskimo Joe, Flight Facilities, Gang of Youths, Gawurra, Gotye, Guy Sebastian, Jebediah, Matt Corby, Missy Higgins, Ruel, Sarah Blasko, Shane Nicholson, The Living End, Troy Cassar-Daley, Vera Blue and Washington.

Created in 2002 The ISC is an annual song contest whose mission is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international arena. Amateur and professional songwriters and musicians are invited to participate.

The panel of 2018 judges included industry executives and recording artists such as Adam Lambert; Tom Waits; Nancy Wilson (Heart); Rodney Crowell; Keane; Sara Watkins; Ted Nash; John Mayall and Joe Louis Walker.
