k.d. lang to appear at Americana Music Festival and Conference 2018

Recipient of Trailblazer Award

The Americana Music Association yesterday announced that k.d. lang will receive its Trailblazer Award at the 2018 Americana Honors and Awards Show.

k.d. lang is a Western Canada native who began recording in 1984 with her independent release A Truly Western Experience.  Her US major label debut came in 1987 and was followed by another acclaimed and charting release.  Her first Grammy Award came in 1989 for Absolute Torch and Twang (Best Female Country Vocal Performance).  Fast forward to 1992 and the platinum-selling Ingenue that yielded her biggest hit “Constant Craving,” as well as another Grammy, this time for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.  A constant stream of further diverse and successful releases garnered lang two more Grammys, eight Juno Awards in Canada, and Canada’s highest civilian award, The Order of Canada.

lang has performed alongside musical luminaries including Tony Bennett, Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, and Loretta Lynn and recently collaborated with much praise with Neko Case and Laura Veirs to release the joint LP case/lang/veirs in 2016.

She sang at the closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and has contributed music to the soundtracks of several films, including Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Happy Feet.

lang has also continued to utilize her star-powered platform to benefit others as a fearless advocate of LGBTQ and animal rights throughout the years.

The Americana Honors and Awards Show will be held September 12 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and lang will most likely perform on the night as well.

The Americana Honors and Awards night will also honor blues legend Buddy Guy with a Lifetime Achievement Honor with two other nominees yet to be announced.  The show will also recognise the best achievements for the year with a series of awards and performances at this gala event.  The award nominees have already been announced and include John Prine, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Brandi Carlile and Nathaniel Rateliff – check them all out HERE.
