Call Me Lucky, Chris Smither’s thirteenth studio album, is officially out on March 2018 (Signature Sounds/Mighty Albert) and is available now to pre-order. (Every pre-order comes with an instant digital track).

This songwriter. guitarist. bluesman. interpreter. performer released his first collection of songs in 1970 (I’m A Stranger Too!).

Over 50 years later, Chris Smither is an American original whose body of work was recognised by some impressive peers when they collaborated in turning their talents to interpret his songs.  The result was 2014’s Link Of Chain: A Songwriter’s Tribute To Chris Smither which features heavy hitters such as Bonnie Raitt, Eilen Jewell, Josh Ritter, Mary Gauthier, Dave Alvin Peter case, Loudon Wainwright III and Tim O’Brien all doffing their hats.  You can read our review of the album HERE.

Call Me Lucky is his latest and first studio album of brand-new originals in six years, featuring his long-time producer and multi-instrumentalist David Goodrich, drummer Billy Conway (Morphine), Matt Lorenz (aka The Suitcase Junket), and engineer Keith Gary.  The four musicians went in to the session to record ten songs.  Reportedly, what they ended up with is a double-album offering commentary on the human condition in Smither’s inimitable fashion.

If the past is anything to go by, these songs will pull deep from the soul and make for the kind of reflection that come when facing a higher power or natural disaster.  Disc 1 features the eight originals and two covers they started with; Disc 2 catapults some of the very same songs into other dimensions.

Here’s a clip for the the opening track “Blame’s On Me”:
