Read about the new release from Ruby Boots ‘Solitude’
Dear reader, one of the key aims of this site is to provide you with early exposure to talented artists. In the case of Ruby Boots, I have failed you. Through dire turn of events, I haven’t caught her live yet, nor have I acquired her new, debut album Solitude. I know you can’t do everything and be everywhere, but I regard this as a serious oversight on my part.
In recent times, Boots (aka Bex Chilcott) has been on the bill on a number of festivals and supported the likes of Father John Misty, Justin Townes Earle, Nikki Lane, Shovels & Rope, Shakey Graves, Tony Joe White, The Waifs and many local Australian performers, such as Wagons, The Audreys, Dyson/Stringer/Cloher and Bill Chambers. There’s been a widespread positive response from a variety of sources to her work to date. Too much to ignore. Boots signed to Lost Highway Records Australia, just as she released “Middle Of Nowhere”, co-written and with guest vocals by with Vikki Thorn (The Waifs). Solitude was released on April 24 and Boots is about to embark on a tour to launch and promote the album.
Here is the official clip for “Middle Of Nowhere”.
“The tunes are top-shelf, but Ruby Boots’ voice seals the deal…Sure you can call it country, but it’s closer to the Rolling Stones’ version than Nashville.” – Noel Mengel, The Courier-Mail
I’ll be at Howler Bar on 22 May where Ruby’s launch will coincide with that of Raised By Eagles’ Diamonds In The Bloodstream. It’ll be a great night, with support from Jim Lawrie.
