I can’t remember how many times I almost saw Mustered Courage. They are based in Melbourne Australia and I live there too. I almost stumbled upon one of their shows – I was at the same venue but had to leave early. I went to see them another time and realised I had the wrong night. Then I went to see a show in Devonport Tasmania (Owen Campbell) and realised they were playing the night before.

But fate has her (?) way. I finally saw them 9,610 miles (or 15,466 kilometers) away in Nashville TN – not once but twice in two days in September this year. I was able to talk to Nick from the band and bought the band’s CD which is one of my most precious albums of the year (see previous post http://robdickens101.com/2014/01/03/best-cds-of-2013-the-i-haves-and-the-i-have-nots-2/).

Mustered Courage had a huge 2013. There was the launch of the brilliant album Powerlines in May. Making a first trip to the US to perform at the Americana Music Festival (and showcasing at the famous Station Inn, as well as two Sounds Australia events in the Music City). Being nominated for two Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) Golden Guitars and CMC ‘New Oz Band of the Year’. Performing at Woodford Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, The National Folk Festival, Festival Of The Sun and The Falls Festival. Jamming backstage in Nashville with Paul Kelly and Dobro legend Randy Kohrs.

This is an exciting time for Mustered Courage. I am hoping they will be invited to the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh North Carolina in 2014.  I was there last year and saw some amazing musicians.

Mustered Courage deserve to be there, amongst the world’s best grass.

Go see them.
