The Harmed Brothers

Read our encounter with The Harmed Brothers and their new album

It was May 2009.  A group of us Australians were visiting Oxford Mississippi after enjoying a wonderful stay in New Orleans and enjoying the Jazz and Heritage Festival and The Ponderosa Stomp there.  Most of us were visiting Oxford for the first time, staying only a couple of nights before heading to Nashville.

On the second night, after a meal I can’t remember, we were looking for some live music and found a place called The Levee (I believe) in the centre of town.  The band that night were a bunch of young, polite guys called The Harmed Brothers.  I know they were polite because our group of around six was the sum total of the crowd in the bar that night when they arrived with their gear, so talking to them would have been difficult to avoid!  Another punter or two may have come in during the set but that was just about it.  The band had driven a long way for this gig I recall – Oregon maybe – so I thought they deserved my full attention.

I was really taken with one of their songs and they had a vitality and aura that I liked.  I bought their CD, which looked to be a home copy – a modest disc label and Franciscan-esque cardboard sleeve.

Not a word I hear on the band for well over four years and then I see a post on Tumblr yesterday that they are embarking on a tour.  A little research and I also find an album (2013), a record label and a video.  I am delighted.

So, here’s the song “Better Days” from the album of the same name on Fluff and Gravy Records.

Tour dates are

7 Feb 14 – Cottage Grove, OR – Axe and Fiddle
8 Feb 14 – Portland, OR – The Secret Society
13 Feb 14 – Long Beach, WA Adrift Inn
14 Feb 14 – Long Beach, WA Adrift Inn
15 Feb 14 – Snowqualmie Pass, WA Snowqualmie Pass Ski Resort
