Jordie Lane – New EP And Tour

Read about Jordie Lane’s new EP ‘Built To Last’ and Tour

The last time I saw Australian troubadour Jordie Lane perform was at an in-store performance at Mojo Records in Launceston Tasmania – I think on International Record Store Day. Not a big crowd but my friend Jim and I helped carry his gear to the car, so it was nice to have a quick chat before he flew to the U.S.

Lane has announced the release of a new EP and a significant twenty date tour, stretching from one side of the country to the other in late-October and all November this year.

The Not Built To Last EP is his follow-up to 2011’s impressive Blood Thinner, in large part inspired by Gram Parsons/Joshua Tree and an extended stay Stateside. That release made a lot of people sit up and take notice, scoring a Australian Independent Music Awards nomination for Best Blues & Roots Album in 2012.

Since Blood Thinner, Lane has kept himself busy with four tours, support slots with The Moody Blues (I would love to chat with him about that experience), Billy Bragg and Ruthie Foster and climbed to iTunes Song of the Week with single “Fool For Love” which was downloaded 40,000 times.

In May this year (just after his Tasmania gigs), he spent two months in Los Angeles to record and work on some co-writing ventures – also taking some time to tour North America and perform at the Winnipeg and Calgary Folk Festivals.

The twenty-date Not Built To Last Tour includes a few festival appearances, including the Mullum Music Festival and South Australia’s Fleurieu Folk Festival. I suggest that you try and catch him at a venue near you.

Jordie Lane’s Not Built To Last EP will be released Friday 18 October through Vitamin Records.
