Peter Rowan returns to Australia.

A frequent visitor to these shores, he will play shows at the Port Fairy Folk Festival March 9 to 12 2018 and at The Spotted Mallard on Tuesday 13 March.  More dates are expected to be announced, so stay tuned.

Grammy-award winner and six-time Grammy nominee, Rowan is a singer-songwriter with a career spanning over five decades.  From his early years playing under the tutelage of the father of bluegrass Bill Monroe, to his time with Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) in the band Old & In the Way and breakout as a solo musician and bandleader, Rowan has built a devoted, international fan base through a solid stream of records, collaborative projects, and constant touring.

There is even a documentary about this towering figure, The Tao of Bluegrass: A Portrait of Peter Rowan (produced by South 40 films & Floating Records) expands beyond Rowan’s music to his artistic and spiritual endeavours spanning four decades, giving an in-depth look at a true legend of Americana musical history.  Go HERE for more on that.

Peter Rowan has been singing and writing songs since before he met Monroe and became one of Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys.  One of the lessons was that if you can play bluegrass music you can play anything.  As Peter moved forward with his own musical career, he took Bill at his word infusing a variety of global sounds to create his own style and sound that accompanies his melodic voice.  His most recent record is a testimony to that musical boldness – My Aloha!

His band on this leg will feature some brilliant and seasoned players Patrick Sauber (banjo, mandolin), Blaine Sprouse (fiddle), and Paul Knight (double bass).  With that band and the stories that we will hear, these shows will be special.

Listening Through The Lens will be covering the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
