News On Birds of Chicago

Following on a move to Nashville and signing with label Signature Sounds, Birds of Chicago will release their new digital E.P. American Flowers on November 17 2017.  Proceeds from the EP will benefit Chicago’s South Side based Teen Living Programs–  a non-profit that builds community, hope and opportunity for youth who are homeless and at risk.

The title track is now out, you can listen to it and pre-order the EP HERE.  Also, look for their full-length album, Love in Wartime  to be released in April, 2018.  They enlisted new friends like Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids, and Maya de Vitry of The Stray Birds for the new material.

Birds of Chicago are an acclaimed husband and wife-led band.  JT Nero and Allison Russell had recently finished recording their reportedly sprawling rock and roll circus of an album Love in Wartime.  Nero, though, had a suite of songs that didn’t feel quite at home on that forthcoming full release.  They decided to celebrate their Nashville arrival by recording an acoustic E.P. at Steve Dawson’s Henhouse Studio. The EP American Flowers is Love in Wartime’s cousin from the country, and it appears to have plenty to say about healing, communion and celebration of life in a dark and troubled time.

Listening Through The Lens caught up with Birds of Chicago at Fayettevilleroots festival last year and bumped into them at AmericanaFest this year.  You can read our thoughts on their previous, excellent release Real Midnight on our best albums of 2016 and one their 2016 live shows which resonated for us.
