It is hard to believe
It has been so long
It must be true
The band told us
The Dream Syndicate are releasing a new album. The first new material since, wait for it…1988!
How Did I Find Myself Here? comes out September 8 2017 on ANTI- Records.
A quick refresh.
The Dream Syndicate formed in Los Angeles, comprising front man Steve Wynn, Karl Precoda (guitar), Dennis Duck (drums) and Kendra Smith (bass). From their debut in 1988 (the iconic Days of Wine and Roses) to 1988’s Ghost Stories, they carved a magnificent niche in alternative rock music, channeling The Velvet Underground and REM, and became a seminal outfit. Live At Raji’s was released in 1989 and is one of the finest live records I have ever heard, capturing the frenetic energy and humour of the band brilliantly.
The Dream Syndicate reformed in 2012 and now has a line-up of Wynn, Duck, bassist Mark Walton and guitarist Jason Victor.
According to the band’s website, this is how they view the new release:
“Well, let’s see. It’s true to our history, a bounty of gifts for everyone who’s been there since the old days and yet unlike anything we ever did before. It’s a post-millennial existential screed that feels like RIGHT NOW and at the same time a timeless joyous thrill ride. It’s psychedelic, it’s rocking, it’s garage, it’s classic, it’s indie and it’s even a soul and jazz record in the most literal sense, a sonic and emotional journey to the deepest recesses of your mind. It’s what we do on stage and yet it’s brand new. Most of all, we dig it. A lot.”
