Subscriber Tickets and First Artists Released Today

The 41st Port Fairy Folk Festival, 2017 will once again be a celebration and showcase of music and culture which consumes the magnificent township of Port Fairy on the south coast of Victoria.

The first group of artists announced who will join the festival for this very special weekend include Patty Griffin (USA), Deborah Conway & Willie Zygier, Don Walker, Eddi Reader (UK), Gawurra, Mundy (IRE), Dori Freeman (USA), Folk Uke (USA), Manu Delago (Austria), Nhatty Man & Gara, The PINKS play the Blues, Sarah Carroll & The Left WingTash Sultana, Vika & Linda and The Waifs

Another group has since been announced – Van Morrison’s ‘Masterpieces’, presented by Vince Jones & The Astral Orchestra, paying homage to two of Van’s most acclaimed albums Astral Weeks and Moondance.  international artists who will be in Australia for the first time; the UK’s Roo Panes, Ireland’s The Young Folk, Canada’s Les Poules a Colin and Netherlands’ Bazzookas.  Other international guests include The Jerry Cans (CAN) who took Australia by storm in early 2016, the much loved Seamus Begley Trio (IRE) and Phil Wiggins (USA) with Australia’s own Dom Turner, and of course there is more to come.

Some of Australia’s finest such as Bennett, Bowtell & Urquhart, Mick Thomas & The Roving Commission, Neil Murray, Suzannah Espie, Kerri Simpson, Barb Waters & Alison Ferrier, Fem Belling, Yirrmal and Miss Amber & Stukulele.

From the folk circus to theatre and visual arts, the festival is an all-ages, family friendly, community celebration of cultures, people, words and music.  It is a regular sell-out event and is one of the most famous and iconic gatherings in Australian roots music, not to mention the oldest.

I am finally going to PFFF.  Today I secured my subscriber tickets, which went on sale at 12.01 am Australian EST.  Luckily I am in the USA (Asheville North Carolina) and the booking time was a very civilised 10.01 am (Eastern Time Zone).

Patty Griffin is one of my favourite artists.  Read my review of her last album.

Dori Freeman released a beautiful debut album this year (read my review) and her presence will be one to look forward to.  I will be seeing her perform at Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee this week.

Hope to see you at Port Fairy.
