Make no mistake, Chris Stapleton has a MONSTER voice.

I first heard it as lead singer for the rocking bluegrass outfit The Steel Drivers and his growling, gravelly and soulful vocals just about leapt out of the speakers.  Stapleton, who is a native of Lexington Kentucky, left the Grammy-nominated Drivers in 2010 and I have been hankering to hear that voice again.

Not much longer to wait.  Chris’ solo debut album Traveller will be released May 5 on Mercury Records Nashville.  As a special preview, a behind-the-scenes album trailer can now be viewed here.  The exciting thing with this trailer is that, it’s so gripping and Stapleton doesn’t even sing a note in it!

Of his inspiration behind the record, Stapleton comments “This record was made standing on the shoulders of friends, family, and heroes.  I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it.”

In celebration of the release, Stapleton will join Little Big Town on their Pain Killer Tour in March followed by a series of The Outsiders World Tour shows with Eric Church in May.   See below for complete tour details.

Here’s a video of The Steel Drivers in 2009 with Stapleton up front, to give you an idea of his vocal powers – “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” (co-written by Mike Henderson and Stapleton) from the 2008 self-titled album.
