by Joe Louis Walker
The new CD from guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, award-winning blues master and Blues Hall Of Fame member Joe Louis Walker is out now on the Alligator label.
Joe Louis Walker is among the greatest bluesmen of his generation. He is known worldwide as one of the genre’s top musical trailblazers — a mesmerizing guitarist and a soul-testifying vocalist. I remember seeing him at Byron Bay’s Bluesfest in 2011 and being captivated by his performance – ripping-it-up blues, with power and passion.
Hornet’s nest was recorded in Nashville and produced by songwriter/ drummer Tom Hambridge (James Cotton, Buddy Guy, George Thorogood, Susan Tedeschi). The album features twelve songs, including nine originals, plus new versions of The Rolling Stones’ “Ride On Baby” and Roy Hamilton’s “Don’t Let Go“.
Prior to joining Alligator Records in 2012, Walker had released twenty-three albums and toured the world virtually non-stop. He has garnered four Blues Music Awards (and has been nominated fifty-two times!) and holds an international reputation as one of the blues’ most prolific and talented stars. He’s also recorded as a guest with some of the blues world’s best-known artists, including appearances on Grammy-winning records by B.B. King and James Cotton. His Alligator debut in 2012, Hellfire was highly acclaimed, receiving the Living Blues Critics’ Award for Blues Album Of The Year. The Chicago Tribune said, “His playing is ferocious. His solos spin wilder and wilder with the kind of fierce embellishments that Jimi Hendrix might’ve conjured.”
